Legal disclaimer

Last updated

SimplePaperwork is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. We explain public forms and official steps, and we fill documents in from your answers. Using the site does not create an attorney-client relationship.

Information, not advice

The guides describe rules as they are written on official pages, with the source and the date we read each one. They are general information. They do not consider your circumstances, and they are not a substitute for advice from a lawyer licensed in your state.

Rules change

Agencies change fees, forms and deadlines. Each fact on the site shows the date we checked it, and facts past their review date are removed automatically, but a rule can change between our checks. Before you act, open the official page linked in the note next to the fact.

Documents you sign

Our legal forms are templates filled in with your answers. You choose whether a document fits your situation, you review it, and you sign and file it yourself. SimplePaperwork does not file anything on your behalf and does not represent anyone before a court or agency.

Not the government

SimplePaperwork is not a government agency and is not affiliated with one. Government forms are free on each agency’s website. You pay for the preparation, never for the form.

When to talk to a lawyer

Talk to a lawyer when a lot of money or property is at stake, when the other party disagrees, when a court date or a deadline is close, or when your situation does not match the plain cases these documents are written for. Your state bar association can refer you to one.
