Ten days. W.S. 31-7-137 makes a licensee notify the division in writing within ten days of a name change and apply for a duplicate license within the same ten days.
Notice alone only updates the database; the card with the new name takes a visit to a driver exam office.1,2
What happens at a Wyoming driver exam office for a name change?
You surrender your current card and show legal proof such as the marriage certificate. WYDOT runs your new name and date of birth past Social Security; if they do not match, you will also need the Social Security card in the new name.

How do you order a certified Wyoming marriage certificate?
From Vital Statistics Services in Cheyenne, at $25 a copy, in person at the Hathaway Building or by mail with the signed form, a copy of your ID, payment and a self-addressed stamped envelope.
For 50 years only the spouses or their lawyer can get the record. The standard computer-generated copy is accepted for legal uses, motor vehicle offices and passports included.4,7
Who updates your name on the Wyoming voter rolls?
Your county clerk. State law and the Secretary of State’s 2026 guide both say to notify the clerk of a new name, and the state registration form has a Name Change box. Hand it in or mail it; a mailed form must be notarized.8–11
